A visit to Bagni San Fillippo

A visit to Bagni San Fillippo, 10-4-24

I enjoyed a relaxing drive through the Val D’orcia of Tuscany and to the small, charming village of Bagni where I parked along a steep incline and hiked down through woods to arrive at the rustic but relaxing-looking site of natural springs. As I hiked down, I could see the water being piped down into the area down below. The key to finding the site is to not stop until you see the Belena Bianco, or what they call the “white whale” which is calcified rock formations that make up the waterfall frozen-in-time looking landscape (limestone formations) that contains the mineral-rich waters that make this place calming, curative and restoring to its visitors. The contours of the frozen-looking land are wondrous and have a lot of variety amongst them. (citation: https://thetravellinglight.com/Bagni-San-Filippo )

The waters here are known for their healing powers, and the site for being stunning. The water at its hottest is around 45 degrees. The site is popular as as one attempts to climb to find a spot, you have to wait awhile and navigate carefully to find your own place to perch in the warm waters. The water does smell of sulphur which is known to help the skin and keep it youthful. But afterwards, visitors usually want to shower so that they do not smell like that all day.

This place is evocative and romantic in the way that it is untouched by modernity and still rustic and natural. The same thermal hot springs that it was when it was used during ancient times.
